Does DMVdesk issue Temporary Operating Permits?

DMVdesk is capable of issuing Temporary Operating Permits (TOPs) if a work order is sent to the SPU department. However, this service comes at a cost and requires DMVdesk to either walk-in or mail in the request. Alternatively, the dealer may choose to send the request directly to their IBC at no charge.

It's important to note that if the extension is being asked due to Title issues, the DMV may not grant the TOP as the vehicle should not have been sold without first securing the title. In case a TOP is granted, it may take up to four weeks to receive it.

Additionally, if the vehicle has a license plate or temporary license plate (TLP) with fees posted on the record with the DMV, then a TOP will not be issued.

If this is the case, we recommend that the customer carry a printout of penal code 4456.3(d) and a copy of the RDF receipt in the vehicle with them in case they need to show it to law enforcement.
