CA Title Only for Out-of-State Vehicles

The CA Title Only option is available for vehicles that are being taken out of state on a One Trip or being trucked out of state. This process allows the title to be secured to the lienholder without having to pay California registration fees.

Requirements

• A $27 Title Only fee
• A $33 MVSC processing fee

Important Information

One Trip Permits or Bill of Lading are required for new car purchases. Leased vehicles cannot be processed as Title Only transactions.

It's important to note that this option is specifically designed for vehicles leaving California permanently and will not allow you to legally operate the vehicle within the state once the transaction is complete.

Process Overview:

1. Gather all necessary documents, including proof of ownership and any required permits or documentation.
2. Visit your local DMV office or authorized third-party provider that offers title services.
3. Inform them that you would like to process a CA Title Only transaction for your out-of-state vehicle.
4. Promptly pay the required fees and provide any additional information requested by the agent assisting you.
5. If approved, you will receive confirmation of your CA Title Only status and can proceed with taking your vehicle out of state legally.
