Validity Period

Temp Tags are valid for 90 days from the Date of Sale. Customers cannot extend the validity period of temp tags, but they can continue to display their expired temp tag if they have proof that their application is pending with the DMV.

Law Enforcement Procedure

It may be helpful to keep a file on hand regarding the Law Enforcement Procedure for expired or expiring temp registration.

Extension and Reissue

We are unable to issue an extension or reissue expiring customer temp tags at our dealership. The DMV does not provide TOP Temp Operating permits to dealerships once the 90-day period has lapsed. We recommend contacting the DMV directly for further assistance.

Driving with Expired Temp Tag

You can legally drive your vehicle with an expired temp tag as long as fees are posted for that vehicle. If needed, you can also obtain an extended temp tag.

Validity of Temporary Tags

If fees are posted on your record, your temporary tags remain valid even if they show an expiration date. Therefore, there is no need to request an extension for your expired temporary tags. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
