Address Mismatch: DMV Paperwork Rejection?
Will the DMV reject my paperwork if the addresses on the ROS and 262 don't match?
DMV Paperwork Guidelines for Form 262 and ROS
Address Discrepancies
The DMV will not reject your paperwork if the addresses on the Report of Sale (ROS) and form 262 do not match. However, it is crucial to ensure that all details are accurate to avoid complications.
If you notice that the apartment number is missing on form 262, you can handwrite it in as long as you do so carefully without crossing out or erasing any information. Keep in mind that any discrepancies will lead to an audit based on the ROS, making it beneficial for both documents to align.
Submission Requirements
Please note that copies of the ROS and form 262 cannot be submitted; original documents are required. If needed, you can request a reprint of the report of sale through your logbook. Nevertheless, you'll still need the original form 262 for odometer readings and Power of Attorney (POA) signatures.
If necessary, a Registration Statement (RS) may be created at a DMV desk as an alternative submission but remember that the original form 262 remains essential.
Digital Signatures
If a new RS is signed after creating one digitally signed REG 262 paperwork becomes void; henceforth, its digital signature cannot be used post-voiding. Ensure proper management of all related documentation during this process.
Authenticity Certificates
For electronic signatures associated with form 262, ensure they come with an authenticity certificate verifying signer's identity. If obtained via third-party applications lacking authentication proof, replace it with a new version of form 262.
Compliance Verification
Your current form 262 should display locks next to names indicating proper authentication; otherwise obtaining a new version is necessary. Contact your vehicle dealer from whom purchased at auction for assistance in acquiring this certificate via email for records maintenance.
Name Consistency Between Documents
The vehicle's information should correspond with LSR's name since they own it—ensuring relevant documentation reflects their details instead of those belonging to LSE helps maintain accuracy
