Step 2: Identify the Issuing State

Once you have the NMVTIS report, identify the state that issued the original title. Each state has its own procedures for obtaining a duplicate title.

If it is determined that the vehicle currently holds a Maryland title, guide your customer to contact the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). You should also direct them to visit the Maryland DMV website for specific instructions on how to obtain their duplicate title.
